During 27, 28 and 29 June 2018 we welkcomed approximately 300-400 healthcare professionals, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, researchers, oncologists, nurses, dietitians, geriatricians, physiotherapists gastroenterologists, sports physicians, health insurers, and healthcare innovators at the Hotel Van Der Valk in Eindhoven (the Netherlands) for the Prehabilitation World Conference 2018.
Prehabilitation means getting patients fit before surgery. For patients with cancer, surgery is often the only road to survival. They need to be as fit as possible to cope with this demanding option. The time before the operation is a window of opportunity to make patients a lot fitter. Prehabilitation is the solution here.
During the congress, many prominent speakers from the Netherlands and abroad not only highlighted the latest developments but also presented suggestions and advice for day-to-day clinical practice. They talked about ERAS (enhanced recovery after surgery), prehabilitation and rehabilitation. In ‘Young Talent’, researchers presented their promising research projects and, on the Dutch day, there were discussions with the Ministry and health and insurers about implementation.
